KAI MANN-

I’m a storyteller

PASSIONate about performance, graphic DESIGN, Video + events
Hailing from the upside-down lands of Melbourne, Australia - Kai is an innovative, out-of-the-box (and often ridiculous) creator, performer, teacher and design powerhouse building a nest for his loving family in Washington.
Training extensively at Steps of Broadway & Broadway Dance Center (in New York City), and Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance and under the tutelage of Robert Sturrock (in Melbourne) - Kai dived headfirst in the creative world (maybe it was more of a cannonball…). Unapologetically driven, he’s worked with industry heavyweights and talented performers in many roles; as an actor/improvisor, dancer, director/choreographer, creative eye and overall brainstorm-enthusiast. With multiple internationally produced music videos, award winning short films and nominated theatrical credits under his belt - Kai is always looking the next project (ready to make a big splash).
Kai is available for work as an actor, singer, dancer, model, event MC, choreographer, director, filmmaker/videographer, graphic designer & social media content/mail-out coordinator.
Creative biography
Get to know
Kai Mann-Robertson…ME!
An inventive artist, charismatic Aussie and dorky-dad driven by an innate passion for storytelling. I like to channel this into every medium I can; whether that be choreographing dance sequences for the next off off off off off off (so far off) Broadway production, shooting quirky and heartfelt films/skits/videos to help forget the hard times, designing vibrant graphics to capture people’s attention, or sketching little doodles down on a napkin while pretending to listen to someone…
(Here’s the obligatory bit where I pretend to be someone else writing about me so it feels less “braggy”)
Kai's journey as a performer, choreographer, and director has unfolded on both national and international stages, leaving an indelible mark. He proudly spearheaded the choreography of the official music video for two of Throttle’s smash hits: Hit The Road Jack, and Money Maker (feat. Lunchmoney Lewis & Aston Merrygold). These visuals not only premiered on the global stage of MTV but have since garnered more than 42 million views combined. Other music videos choreographed include Disco Heartbreak by Brooklyn’s Finest. Each of these music videos, alongside the mid-pandemic one-man short dance-comedy ISO, showcase Kai’s unique and quirky pairing of cinema and choreography - where every camera move, dance break and comedic punchline finds its beat, and narrative storytelling is a key driving factor.
At the age of 13, Kai's fascination with acting, writing and filmmaking (along with his narrative storytelling instincts) officially took root in the creation of his short film, Hold My Hand. This 6.5 min, glitchy, digital camcorder, not-at-all now-embarrassing "masterpiece” earned him a spot as a finalist in Tropfest's Junior competition—the world's largest short film competition. If the thrill of creative problem-solving and thinking “outside of the box” didn’t already have him hooked, then this pivotal moment of (even the smallest) recognition at this glittering Sydney event sure did reel him in. Armed with a camcorder, a cringey mid 2000s fedora and unyielding determination, he and a school friend secured press passes for the red carpet and beyond. This access allowed them to interview luminaries such as Australia’s David Wenham, Tara Moss, Emily Browning, and Rebel Wilson, all while occupying the front row in the press seating area (the best view at this outdoor premiere). It was an epiphany—a revelation that he was destined for a career in the creative arts.
In the realm of theatre, Kai's choreographic talents shone brilliantly during the Australian Premiere of Gilligan's Island: The Musical at Chapel Off Chapel. He also took the helm, directing and choreographing the interactive stage show Song Contest – The Almost Eurovision Experience with GLTS, among several other independent musical theater productions. independent musical theatre productions.
Kai’s choreography has also featured in youth contemporary dance production VoiceBox: Lost & Found, two separate seasons of the dance night UNDRGRND (Melbourne), and the theatrical showcase from Master of Choreography - A Nightmare on Dance Street 3.
Kai's choreographic prowess extends beyond the stage, leaving its mark in the youth contemporary dance production VoiceBox: Lost & Found, 2 seasons of the electric dance night UNDRGRND in Melbourne, and the dazzling theatrical showcases of Master of Choreography - A Nightmare on Dance Street 3. With a dynamic range of talents and a boundless passion for creative expression, Kai Mann-Robertson stands poised to ignite collaborative sparks in the world of arts and entertainment.
Following his transformative 2019 journey to New York, where he honed his talents amidst the vibrant Broadway scene, Kai faced an unprecedented obstacle – the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of opting for the $14K one-way flight home to an uncertain future, he chose the path less traveled - nurture his creative spirit in the heart of the city that never sleeps, forging indelible bonds with a dynamic and innovative community of cinematographers, playwrights, dancers, and acting luminaries. Today, his relentless dedication burns brighter, as he crafts his art for the newest addition to his life, his adorable daughter and cherished wife.
